AUDIENCE: That’s you.
FADE IN
EXT. AMOTH AND BIGHEART ARE ON DRAGON-BACK, WITH AMOTH IN FRONT. MOUNT MALDIAC FADES INTO THE DISTANCE BENEATH THEM, AND SOON EVEN GRAVEDEATH’S SHOUTS OF RAGE ARE LOST IN THE RUSHING WIND.
BIGHEART
Who are you? Where are we going? Please get me off this dragon.
AMOTH
I’m Amoth Peacedream, Gravedeath’s bastard son who was raised in hiding and happens to have a talent for the ancient art of Dragon Riding.
AUDIENCE
Thanks for catching us up. It’s been several episodes and we had forgotten all about this storyline.
AMOTH
As for where we’re going…for now, as far from Gravedeath as possible.
BIGHEART
But my magic talking sword is still down there!
AMOTH
Your what?
BIGHEART
My, uh, normal sword. That’s what I said. My normal sword is still down there.
RUTHLESS THE TALKING SWORD
Way ahead of you, Bigheart. I’m already safely back in my sheath. Can’t you feel me on your hip?
BIGHEART
You’re here! How did you do that?
RUTHLESS
Just one of the perks of us being bound together for eternity by ancient magic.
BIGHEART
Are there other, uh, perks that I should be aware of?
RUTHLESS
If you spin me on the ground in a lavender field with three crows flying overhead, I always point north.
BIGHEART
That’s such a specific situation
RUTHLESS
It’s not as good as Telepathy and Teleportation, but it can be useful.
AMOTH
Bigheart, are you talking to yourself? Aren’t you going to thank me for saving your life?
BIGHEART
Yes. I mean no. I mean yes thank you for saving my life, and no I’m not talking to myself.
AMOTH
I’ve been dying to meet you. You’re famous, even all the way up in the mountains. The boy prophesied to defeat Gravedeath and restore peace to the realm.
AUDIENCE
Thanks for reminding us of the main plot again, we had forgotten that as well.
BIGHEART
I’m no hero. I’m just trying to do what’s right, and live by my father’s final words: it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.
AMOTH
So it’s true, you are The One.
BIGHEART
How can I be The One if I just got my ass kicked by Gravedeath? If it hadn’t been for you, that would have been the end of the prophecy.
AMOTH
Well there is another prophecy…
BIGHEART
Another one?!
AMOTH
It says that there will be a boy who will save the boy who is prophesied to defeat Gravedeath and restore peace to the realm, and together they will find the Object of Great Power.
BIGHEART
I’ve never heard of that one. Who writes these prophecies?
AMOTH
No one knows.
BIGHEART
Well that’s convenient. Either way, we’re nowhere closer to finding the Object of Great Power. We don’t even know what it is in the first place!
AMOTH
We don’t need to know what it is, all we need to know is that it has Great Power. As for the where, I think I have an idea.
BIGHEART
Can you lower the speed on this dragon or something? I feel like the wind is going to rip my face off. We already searched high and low like the prophecy said, we didn’t find anything except a compulsive liar in the swamp and banshees in the mountains.
AMOTH
You didn’t search high and low enough, Bigheart. Did you think you were the only boy who thought he might be The One? I spent my entire childhood searching the mountains, thinking maybe I’d be lucky enough to find it. It’s not hidden up high, I promise you. But if you really want to search low, there’s only one place that makes sense.
BIGHEART
Is that water I see beneath us? Are we flying over -
AMOTH
The ocean, Bigheart. Or more specifically, the bottom of the ocean.
BIGHEART
No thanks.
AMOTH
Hear me out. Centuries ago there was a great galleon carrying treasure from the Undiscovered Lands back to the Capital. Amongst the treasure haul was said to be an object so powerful it could make and break kings. Somewhere across the open ocean, the ship was lost forever, whether to storms or pirates or something else, no one knows.
BIGHEART
You think the Object of Great Power was on board?
AMOTH
Yes, and I think it’s now sitting inside a shipwreck at the bottom of the ocean.
BIGHEART
If this legend is so famous, how come no one has plundered the shipwreck yet?
AMOTH
It’s Very Dangerous.
BIGHEART
Ah.
AMOTH
There are sentient whirlpools and bloodthirsty sirens and monsters with teeth as big as guillotines.
RUTHLESS
Sign me up!
BIGHEART
Go back to sleep, Ruthless. Of course. And let me guess, that’s where we’re headed now.
AMOTH
First, we need a ship. Dragons can’t swim.
BIGHEART
What about my friends? We can’t just leave them in the mountains. Plus, Lilly was just starting to warm up to me.
AMOTH
Only room for one passenger on the dragon. Your friends will be fine - after all, they are are under the protection of a Powerful Wizard.
BIGHEART
The only thing Blizzard is Powerful at is being deluded.
AMOTH
We’re going to do great things together, Bigheart.
BIGHEART
So much up and down movement with all the flapping. I think I’m getting dragon-sick.
AMOTH
Please don’t puke on the dragon. He hates that.
